Borders – Control or Rock-n-roll?

PERFORMANCE

January 31, Saturday
17.00
Town Square

The skating ring on the Town Square which is guarded by the border-towers is now transformed into a stage for a border-crossing performance!

Imagine a soundscape based on the recognized rock-n-roll samples written and played by a famous Russian rock-musician from St Petersburg Yevgeny Fedorov. Kimmo Pohjonen from Helsinki performing his mesmerizing accordion-improvisations live. Yevgeny Fedorov and a Sami singer Inga Juuso communicating with each other across the skating ring in a vocal duet. Imagine figure-skaters performing to the rock-n-roll soundscape. Imagine curtains of light and ice- and snow sculptures in – 20! The show is opened by the ice-breaker Sakari Rautio from Inari who is cutting the festival slogan from ice in front of the public!

With the performance “Control or Rock-n-Roll?” we want to manifest cultural politics across and without borders:
Rock-n-roll is a mix of popular musical genre!
Rock-n-roll is a melting pot of different music traditions!
Rock-n-roll (read: arts and culture) is a folk alternative to border control!
